The Power Of The Tongue by Doug Giles

“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”
- Proverbs 18:21 (MSG)

James said in James 3:6 that we can create hell in our life by our unbridled tongue. Conversely, Solomon says in Proverbs 18:21 that death and life are in the power of the tongue. Here’s a question for you: What type of verbiage are you spewing over your life and your loved ones? Huh? What are you declaring over our nation? Are you declaring blessings or curses over your Church, Family, and State? When Moses sent the twelve spies into Canaan to check out the Promised Land, ten of the spies said they were like “grasshoppers before the enemy” (Num 13:33). Yep, they said that they were wee little bugs before the badass warriors of Canaan. Guess what the ten shriveled testicle tepid spies became, little children? If you guessed they became grasshoppers then pat yourself on the back because you’re correct. They first said they were grasshoppers and then they became grasshoppers. In contrast to those ten goobers, Joshua and Caleb said that they could whip the Canaanites’ backside, and guess what? They did. And they did it at the ripe old age of 85 (Num. 14:38). Here’s the bottom line, Christian: if you think and say you can’t, you won’t. If you think and say you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, you will. Or as Dr. Peterson put it: “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.” – Proverbs 18:21 (MSG)

4 Lessons From The Martyrdom of Charlie Kirk 3 MIN READ ◦ DOUG GILES Here’s four things that hit me after Charlie Kirk was assassinated yesterday. ONE: Jesus said if you follow him you will be hated and some will be killed because of fidelity to Him and His word. “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.” John 15:18 “If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as...

Are "Youth Groups" Biblical? 4 MIN READ ◦ DOUG GILES I’ve got a big problem with Christian youth groups. Here are four reasons why I don't like them. It could go up to fifty by the end of this chapter, but for now … we’ll keep it at four. Number one. In my experience, youth groups are lame. When I first got saved, I was twenty-one and a college student. So I was advised to go to “the College Group” that our church had. So I did, and it was weird. Most of the guys and girls that were there...

Thou Shalt Not Kill, but Thou Shalt Hunt 4 MIN READ ◦ DOUG GILES I wish I had a new gun for every time I’ve had an anti-hunter who (more often than not) is also an agnostic or an atheist, quote to me the sixth commandment, namely “Thou shalt not kill” as a proof text against my God-blessed pursuit of hunting. If I had a new gun, per misquote, from the desperate bunny lovers, then my battery would make Ted Nugent’s arsenal look like Ed Bagley, Jr’s, because, OMG, do they toss that verse around...
