I will sing a new song to You, O God;
Upon a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You,
Who gives salvation to kings,
Who rescues David His servant from the evil sword.
Rescue me and deliver me out of the hand of aliens,
Whose mouth speaks deceit
And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
Let our sons in their youth be as grown-up plants,
And our daughters as corner pillars fashioned as for a palace;
Let our garners be full, furnishing every kind of produce,
And our flocks bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields;
Let our cattle bear
Without mishap and without loss,
Let there be no outcry in our streets!
How blessed are the people who are so situated;
How blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!
- Psalm 144:9-15 (NASB1995)
Psalm 144 doesn’t specifically say what King David and the people of God were going through but it was intense. They’re under attack and it is serious. Maybe they too had a radical, cackling Marxist hag trying to hijack their nation through bullshit campaigns of intergalactic misinformation? Who knows? What we do know is that David does mention that one aspect of the war waged upon God’s people were, “mouths which speak deceit” and “spread falsehood.” Sound familiar? So, David’s at war. He’s reliant upon God to defend against the attack and he’s trusting God to subdue the enemy under him. Per usual, when David’s up against implacable enemies, he lets the epic and deadly imprecatory prayers fly fast and furious. Maybe the church today should follow suit and rain hellfire prayers bombs down on the powers of darkness as well. Aside from the aforementioned there are five little ditties David did and proclaimed that I believe The Church should take onboard given that we too are in a similar crap sling.
1. Sing. "I will sing a new song to You, O God; Upon a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You.” (Ps. 144:9)
A lot of people quit singing under duress. They lose their song. Or they start singing stuff like I’ll Fly Away instead of We Shall Overcome. When I’m under attack I have three songs I sing out loud while wearing nothing but a loincloth. They are 1. We’re Not Going to Take by Twisted Sister. 2. Kiss My Ass by Ted Nugent. 3. A Mighty Fortress is Our God by Martin Luther. We should crank up the tunes personally, ecclesiastically, and nationally and sing songs of deliverance and let all enemies foreign and domestic know that you will not grind us down. Can I get a witness?
2. Righteous leaders prevail. "Who gives salvation to kings, Who rescues David His servant from the evil sword. Rescue me and deliver me out of the hand of aliens, Whose mouth speaks deceit And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.”(Ps. 144:10-11)
Please note that David didn’t say, “And God letteth demonic leaders rule the roost.” David said his righteous admin got “rescued from the evil sword.” I wished Christians would quit blathering on about the “power of evil leaders” and the power of the devil himself and instead, magnify Christ’s rule and reign and how God loves to dispose of unrighteous leadership.
3. Your sons and daughters have a powerful future.
Ask any Christian, given our current crappy conditions, if they think their kids have a bright tomorrow. Most of them will tell you their posterity is in more trouble than Britney Spears would be at a Puff Daddy keg party. David, however, declared the kids would be alright. And not just barely alright but thriving during and after the attack that was upon them. Check it out… “Let our sons in their youth be as grown-up plants, and our daughters as corner pillars fashioned as for a palace.” (Ps. 144:12) That doesn’t sound doom and gloomy for the kids to moi. Does it to you? Do you think we have it worse than David did when under war conditions with a physical enemy? David said their young sons would be prime sturdy oaks (MSG) and their daughters would be cornerstones for palaces (MEV). David was not some dreamy deluded Christian. He was a warrior poet who knew the covenant promises of God applied in peacetime and in war.
4. Prosperity will ensue. “Let our garners be full, furnishing every kind of produce, And our flocks bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields; Let our cattle bear without mishap and without loss…” (Ps. 114:13-14)
David declares, during wartime conditions, that God’ll keep his people financially afloat, blessing their enterprises. I believe we should be shouting that over our lives and businesses as well. Most Christians when talking about our economic outlook sound like the cast from Hee Haw singing … Gloom, despair, and agony on me. Deep, dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Gloom, despair, and agony on me. We should speak to our mountains to move and not describe them and/or prognosticate how they might fall on us and kill us.
5. The streets will dial down. “Let there be no outcry in our streets!” (Ps. 144:14)
Our streets and campuses have gone nuts – especially in liberal-run hellscapes. It’s crack night in the ferret hut out there. David said that our awesome God was going to put the kibosh on that crap. The streets return to peaceful places of enjoyment instead of Thunderdome. So, according to the Word of God, this is what happens to the people whose God is the Lord. They’re blessed in the throes of conflict and they will be blessed after the dust settles. At least that’s what David declared.
